Ive been here 15 years now, and I still dont get it…
What exactly is the connection between…
- Jesus dying on the cross.
- Eggs and Chicks
- Crime on TV
OK I get the first two, but English Crime series on TV at Easter… WHY WHY WHY???
For NON-NORWAY inhabitants, Ill just clarify. Yes, At Easter, for some reason, the TV is loaded with lots and lots of Crime series, even the Kids TV hour has its own child-friendly “Whodunnit” going on!
Don’t get me wrong, I love watching old episodes of Morse or Lewis or Poirot or whatever… I just want to know why?
If you dig deeper, its probably got something to do with the fact that Easter is a typical time for Norwegians to go to their winter cabins in the mountains for the last time before there no more snow, and maybe because the snow aint that great, they load up with Crime books, this has caught on, and extended to TV… but… still, why Crime books, and still… why Easter… why not Christmas Crime (Jule-Krim) or Independance Day Crime (17th Mai Krim?)
It really highlights the Norwegian peoples need for constancy, tradition and lack of spontaneity. Throughout the year there are lots and lots of little tiny, but totally Norwegian traditions. The shops are probably behind most of them, but weirdly, the Norwegians go along with them…
…Whoops.. have to go.. Miss Marple is on…
